Hi guys, I want to know if it is possible to input digraphs continuously.

For example, when writing some math related assignment, often I have to write many symbols which I do using digraphs. But using <C-k> every time seems tedious. Is there a way I can make <C-k> (or anything else) work for infinite digraphs, until I manually end it.

Thanks

Rather than digraphs, maybe use a keymap (see :help mbyte-keymap)? I use that (rather than strings of digraphs) when writing Russian, or mixed Cyrillic and Latin as in my Russian-French dictionary; and I have a different one for Arabic, where there even aren't any digraphs (both of them own-coded because the keybord layouts, if any, distributed with Vim for these scripts don't suit me). It works quite well.

For math, Dr. Charles "Chip" Campbell wrote a "math keymap and menu". The following links are from his Vim page, http://www.drchip.org/astronaut/vim/ :
• latest "beta" version: http://www.drchip.org/astronaut/vim/#MATH
Since you mentioned it, Tony -- I decided to update my website with a new version of the "math keymap and menu" vimball.  Mostly just the "mathify" has been updated.  With it, one could type 12345678, then visually select the digits, and hit ^ to cause them all to become superscripts.  Do the same thing with "abcdef" and hitting &, result would be αβψδϵφ (ie. Greek variants).  Not quite the same as a "digraph mode", but one does get a lot of conversion with but a few keypresses.  Here's an example:

┌─────────┐
│  dilog  │
│  Li₂(x) │
│         │
│  ∞  xᵏ  │
│  ∑  ――  │
│ k=1 k²  │
└─────────┘

(I used DrawIt to do the box, btw, also available at my website: http://www.drchip.org/astronaut/vim/index.html#DRAWIT )

Chip Campbell

Use LaTeX for writing math stuff, or use a logic combination of regular
characters and substitute them after writing. you could also use aliases
for direct substitution.

editing over ssh

Just tried to start to use vim over ssh and has several questions:

1. When I open a new file vim opens an additional NetrwMessage buffer,
(while for existent files it show only one as expected)

What is it for? How to make vim not to open NetrwMessage buffer for new
files?

2. Vim creates a swap file in ~/.vim (my ~ is readonly) and shows it
with vim -r, but don't use it when I open the remote file next time
after killing vim.

How to make vim to recover it automatically?

3. When I do vim -r ~/.vim/test.swp for unexistent file it recovers into
NetrwMessage buffer.

Why so? How to make vim to recover into file buffer?

vim -r shows:
test.swp
owned by: sergio dated: Tue Jun 16 08:47:29 2020
file name: scp://e/test
modified: YES
user name: sergio host name: t
process ID: <PID>

Problem with Session.vim file

vim version is 8.0, p1453

system is Ubuntu 18.04

I built up a complicates set of windows and tabs in GVIM and saved it as Session.vim

When I reload from that file (after a reboot), I get error E35: Not enough room

The offending line in the Session.vim file is:

set winminheight=1 winheight=1 winminwidth=1 winwidth=1

Experimentation shows that it is the first of these that is causing the problem (it maybe others, of course, since it crashes on the first one) and that somehow this has gotten set to 0 (such that my windows are "squashed", as described in the help file for this option). Trying to set it to 1 (the default value) generates the above-mentioned error (Not enough room).

I was able to fix (kludge around) this by commenting out all the lines that involve these options (about 7 of them in a 1349 line Session.vim file), but of course, this is not the real/right fix.
But do note that once I commented them all out, the file loaded and displayed my windows and tabs correctly.

Re: persistent highlight between marks ?

Hi,

M Kelly schrieb am 13.06.2020 um 14:21:

Anyone know of a way to set a start mark and then an end mark and then highlight all text between them ?
So that is stays highlighted, even if I move the cursor away or scroll etc.
Sort of like a visual mode selection that remains after you move away.

you can use the "/%'m" atom in a search or in the pattern of a :match command, e.g.,

  /%'a\_.*%'b/

or

  :match ErrorMsg /%'a\_.*%'b/

This will highlight everything from mark 'a up to, but not including mark 'b. If you want to include the position where you have put mark 'b, add a dot at the end of the pattern, i.e.,

  /%'a\_.*%'b./

If you change one of the marks after that, you might need to press Ctrl-L to refresh the display.

Jürgen

Yes. This page is also mentioned in my gist.

BTW, I have added a lot of content to the gist recently. Review comments and
suggestions are welcome.

Very nice. Are you keeping this up to date there? Perhaps a link to this
reference should be included in the help

Yes. I am planning to keep this up-to-date.
