Have you tried to unregister at the googlegroups page?

I am sorry for not really being able to help but i experience similar
strangeness:

I joined the list long ago (not using googlegroups) and never got any mails.
Since i didn't want to register with googlegroups and had other stuff to do i
kind of forgot about it.

Now two days ago mails suddenly started pouring in, for which i have no
explanation.

But hey i'm glad. This way i got hold of the really surprising screencasts of
Derek!
