Maybe use your left hand to drive the mouse then?

There are several special keyboards (eg datahand) which can help.
I never tried them. But they were sold out some time ago for several
month.
Also make sure that your current keyboard isn't a $10 USB keyboard.
I bought such once and throw it away after 3 days because my fingers
started hurting..

I read multiple times that taking breaks might be important.

Depending on the kind of text you write accord typing machines could be
an alternative - however they are expensive.

Now I never use mouse

Seriously: If hjkl starts hurting your hands.. you should have a look at
:h motion.txt
I seldomly use hkjl. There are many different motion commnads which
serve me better.

Whatever you do: learning dvorak (and getting up to speed) takes about
2-3 month. I switched some years ago. I dropped both: Genman and us
keyboard layout. dvorak feels more comfortable for me.

Depending on which part of your hand hurts maybe even using two
keyboards can help - because you can move them around to change to
location of your hands (?)

Depending on the texts you have to edit you can also consider
outsourcing parts of your text.

(Probably everybody will start hating me now (?) *g*, but Microsoft Word
maybe has good speech recognition. I tried it once, but my microphone
was too bad. Still I was impressed by the kind of commands you could
issue such as: "delete a sencence" or "replace last word". Something
like hat) - I don't think its faster than Vim tough.

Anyway: good luck.
