For what it's worth, Ctrl-ke' works as well as Ctrl-k'e -- same number
of keystrokes, but it doesn't matter whether you hit the single-quote
before or after the vowel.
I hope someone has an answer to your mystery -- I'm using gvim on
Windows, so this stuff behaves differently from your system, I
suppose. Good luck.
