Or are you asking about appending built-in command output? That is
more involved surprisingly. The easiest way is:

:redir @"
:whatever_command_you_want
:redir END
p

The :redir @" redirects to the unnamed register, which is pasted by
the final p without selecting a register because it uses the unnamed
by default.
