Besides answering the comments from Tony, I have the following to add.
Do you get any messages in the konsole or in ~/.xsession-errors?
Also, to narrow down the problem, you should build a debug version of
gvim and attach gdb to it and print a stacktrace, so someone who is
familiar with the code can see, what is happening.
