Try "vim --startuptime timing.txt". This will record useful
information in "timing.txt" to be able to tell where Vim spends
time at startup. You need Vim-7.3.* for the --startup-time
command line option (it was introduced in Vim-7.2.269)

Try also "vim -X". Does this help? If so, your DISPLAY env
variable may not be set correctly.
