set font style in Linux

Hi all

I am working on Linux (GNome) and I want to set the font in my vim in italic style. But I don't know how. In windows, the code could be:
set guifont=fontname:h11:i
where i stands for italic.

But the code doesn't work on Linux,  how could it be done in Linux?

Thanks.
