I have no beef with that. (I don't use "aw", but it seems to take the
"appended" space only, if there is one¹. So if cow would be "outer",
should it then take the leading space as well?)

¹ That "caw" then does take the prepending space if invoked on "well?",
rather than " space ", takes some getting used to. Admittedly, ":h aw"
does say "Leading or trailing white space", not "Leading and trailing
white space".
