Does vim support markdown?

I'm a bit confused. The issue is raised by my ongoing project of getting my vim set up running in vim touch on an android tablet. I use vimwiki with markdown syntax a lot on my laptop. Trying to get vimwiki going on the tablet makes me wonder how that is possible, since I do not have a markdown plugin installed in vim.

Initially I was going to ask if vim supports markdown syntax, but now I'm guessing vimwiki itself processes the markdown coding in vimwiki documents? Is that right?
