It seems that there is a problem with grouping, since event these
patterns fail with 'set re=2':
:s/\(01\)\(23\%(\d\@=\)\)\?\(.*\)/--\1--\2--\3
:s/\(01\)\(23\%(\d\)\@=\)\?\(.*\)/--\1--\2--\3
