If you can express what you want from this, surely there are folks
who have experienced the same and can direct you either to the knobs
to twiddle in the settings (such as 'paste') or some plugin to
ameliorate your pain point. Also, if you don't have "tidy" ("apt-get
install tidy" on my Debian machine here; YMMV), it's handy for
cleaning up HTML from all manner of ugliness.

(I have been able to avoid programming in Java for years now, so I
can't speak to your 2nd and 3rd issues)

You're doing well by what I've seen. If only all mailing-list users
(«cough» I'm looking at you, comp.lang.python «cough») were so
courteous.
