Indeed,
:echo undotree()
gives a lot of raw data.

After your previous mail, I installed Gundo and it worked just as
advertised. Regrettably, despite 988 entries, it did not contain
my missing data :(

Actually, I was surprised to fund that Gundo worked without
restarting my session.

Not often that I lose data in vim.
