Reusing the vim-latex macro engine in markdown files

Hi All,

I'm trying out a new approach to my academic writing, i.e. using Markdown + Pandoc to write scientific texts. The pandoc version of markdown allows the inclusion of arbitrary LaTeX expressions (such as mathematical formulas).

When writing LaTeX I use the greate plugin vim-latex (or LaTeX-Suite-aka-vim-latex) which has some very handy macros for mathematical typesetting.

My question is - is there a way to use the macro subset of the vim-latex plugin in a markdown document? I'm currently using vim-pandoc and UltiSnips for snippets.

Thanks, and I hope this is the right place to post this question,
Omri
