This is just a wild guess, but are you sure, connecting to the X server
works? If Vim can't connect, it can't register as a server. So perhaps
your DISPLAY variable isn't setup or you are using this as a different
user or remotely then it won't work. So make sure, copying and pasting
from the X11 clipboard works and then registering as server should
simply work.
