Hidden should fix it, unless some kind of autocommand resets this. How
are you changing buffers and does using either the command prefix  :noa
or :set ei=all fix it possibly?

Christina,

I am using C-^ to move to the prev buffer.
Now I noticed that if I move to buffers with :bX or other mappings I have this does not happen. But I really need C-^ to work, or is there any other key combo to move to prev buffer?

Not sure how I should use the comand prefix  you mention...

I learnt that :b# is the same as C-^ and this does not close the folds for me, so I am using it successfully

now. I needed this as I am calling those commands from an AHK script, using another key.

by the way sorry about the typo, I know you are Christian and not Christina :)
