Is it possible to tell if I am in recording or executing a register mode?

I need a script to behave differently (do nothing) while macros are being recorded and played back. Looking at the source, it seems like vim tracks whether or not recording is going on in the Recording and Exec_reg variables, but I do not know how or if I can access them from within vimscript. Is there any way to tell if I am recording or executing a register in vim?
