A simple experiment (using 7.4.617) suggests that <gt> is not used.
A :helpgrep search,

:helpgrep <lt>

finds a number of explanations of why <lt> is needed, which is to
represent a literal '<' in situations where '<' could also be the
first character of a key name. There is no need for a special name
for '>'.
