Hello:

Vim does not have its own built-in ftp client, nor does it (directly)
use one.

Perhaps you're thinking about vim ftp://host/path/file -- that's the
netrw plugin working in conjunction with vim. See

:help netrw-externapp

There are several ftp related variables: g:netrw_ftp g:netrw_ftp_cmd
g:netrw_ftp_options g:netrw_ftpextracmd g:netrw_ftpmode
and help for each.
