mysterious highlighting

I'm editing a file. For some reason all occurrences of the letter "s"
are highlighted in green.

Notes:

1. I've tried searching for something else, but that doesn't change the
colors.

2. All occurrences are green, both upper- and lower-case.

Any suggestions?
