insert mode mapping to move to a column

how to move to a column in the current line,
to the column same as the next word from
the current position in the above line.
This is the best i could explain.

example.

123456789
move to here
i*

* - do something here such that i
automatically go to column 6, which
is the next starting word from the
current position in the preceding line.
