I'm gonna build my own 'vim' from source, without any 'gnome' stuff,
and see what happens...
On Debian/Ubuntu you should also be able to install vim-gtk and use update-alternatives to make those links to point to the vim-gtk version.
(and/or uninstall vim-gnome completely)
