latex suite installation

I want to install the latex suite plugin and I'm forced not to use apt-get.

So I downloaded the plugin source from
http://vim-latex.sourceforge.net/index.php?subject=download
http://vim-latex.sourceforge.net/index.php?subject=download

then:
make install

then I set my .vimrc file

in vim:
helptags ~/wheremydocsare

Latex suite is not loaded, I also tried to set in .vimrc
set runtimepath+=/wherelatexsuitepluginis

Does someone has some ideas?
