theres also notes that if you have an nvidia or ati card that the card
management software provides this functionality ( these settings are
usually accessed via the system tray icons for the ati/nvidia software )

alternatively, there are 3rd party desktop managers that should provide
this functionality if you don't have an ati or nvidia card.
