Can vim output its entire display to stdout?

I was just searching for command-line syntax-coloring tools when I realized that vim would be the perfect fit, if it has an output-only flag of some type.

Forgive me if any of my terminology is wrong.

An idealized example would be...

$ vim index.html --output-only
<html>...</html>
$

Or...

$ cat index.html | vim --output-only -
<html>...</html>
$

Vim would be launched, draw the display to stdout with vimrc settings (most importantly syntax on and colorscheme), then exit immediately.

The output would be persistent (would not disappear when vim exits).

Is this currently possible? Thanks! And long live vim.
