In addition to all the good advice already given you on this thread, if
your right hand, wrist and arm are hurting you, maybe you should start
using your left hand more (and with more lateral motion)? I notice that
I use my right hand almost exclusively when I type (using all five
fingers, but with a lot of lateral motion); in fact, at the moment my
left hand is supporting my chin ;-), I use my right thumb for the space
bar, and the other fingers as necessary, from the index for keys on the
left side to the little finger for keys on the right side (right and
left compared to the position of my hand at that particular time). You
could use your left hand the way I use my right, I suppose. You could
even place your mouse left of your keyboard if that makes you use your
left hand when a mouse action is needed.

All that lateral motion doesn't make me type particularly slowly, but
then I never followed those "touch-typing" courses where they teach you
never to use different fingers at different times for the same key;
rather, I taught myself typing with a typewriter and no theory, building
upon the piano lessons which were still fresh in my reflexes ;-) at that
time of my youth.

Best regards,
Tony.
