Re: VIM on a small embedded system

Not what you asked, but usually with a slow, or difficult to get to platform it's better to run vim "locally", on the PC with the keyboard, and use netrw to edit files on that platform. Since you've got ssh working on the Arietta, scp should work, f.ex.
vim scp://hostname/path/to/file

Have a look at :help netrw
