What is a "vim shell"? There is no such thing in Vim.
Neovim or emacs have terminal windows, see:
https://neovim.io/doc/user/nvim_terminal_emulator.html
But if such terminals doesn't behave like a regular terminal (?),
then I don't think that it should be up to Vim to cope with their
deficiencies.
I just tried to launch Vim inside a Neovim terminal, and it seems
to work fine for me at first sight.
