Shot in the dark.. but does this happen under GNU/screen..? In
a terminal?
This Control+L business sounds suspiciously like a problem with your
terminal.. possible terminal/terminfo mismatch..?
IOW, instead of remapping 'l', would first try to figure out why the
text gets messed up in the first place..
