Compiling Vim GUI on Ubuntu

I have a script which builds Vim for me.

Right now, it is only installing console Vim and not the GUI.

uname -a
Linux ubuntu-virtualbox 4.2.0-42-generic #49~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 29 20:22:11 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It is a VM, I am not even certain what my Window manager is.

ubuntu@ubuntu-virtualbox:/opt/vim$ wmctrl -m
Name: Compiz
Class: N/A
PID: N/A
Window manager's "showing the desktop" mode: ON

I assume configure failed for some reason, just looking for a heads up on how to check.

Thanks,
David
