Thank you for pitching in, here.
As it happens, Ben nailed thr problem and, althogh I haven't tested it exhaustively yet, it's going in the right direction.
I was fairly sure that it wasn't a badly formatted file, as the file opens cleanly and displays all syntax colouring until you do 'something' to it.
