store and restore the value of the setting

I need to store and restore the value of the shellslash setting. Does anybody know how can I do that?

Here is what I'm trying to do:

let l:shellslash = shellslash
set noshellslash
....
do something
...
set shellslash = l:shellslash

Any help is appreciated.
