To delete the word under the cursor, with the whitespace on one side, use

daw

for Delete A Word.

This "word" will be delimited by any non-keyword characters, see
|'iskeyword'|. To delete a WORD instead (delimited by whitespace), use

daW

see ":help text-objects"
