It was suggested to me that perhaps RunView might help you do what you
want; its available at
http://www.drchip.org/astronaut/vim/index.html#RUNVIEW .
RunView doesn't create a separate file, though, but it does open a
separate window with a filter's output. By default that filter is ksh,
but its easily changed: let g:runview_filtcmd="someotherfilter". If
there's a filetype involved, you might want to put the
g:runview_filtercmd line in .vim/ftplugin/FILETYPE/FILETYPE.vim .
