I would like to propose that a commenting plugin be shipped with Vim
by default. Having tried a few of these, I have found the NERD
Commenter plugin to be the most extensive and widely used, supporting
a horde of programming languages. So far I have only had positive
feedback about such an idea from the vim users that I have spoken to.
Many other editors provide a competent commenting system by default,
and this has been one of the most essential coding features that vim
has been lacking.
Before someone mentions it, I don't consider using visual block mode
and insertion as a viable option for 'commenting support' while
coding.
I have spoken to Bram about this, and he has said that he will be
willing to ship it if there is no significant debate about which one
to include and how it works, if it doesn't break anything, and is well
documented. So essentially this thread might serve to highlight any
potential concerns.
Any thoughts?
