Wow, thanks for chiming in everyone!
I'm using Vundle to manage plugins at the moment, so I went ahead and incorporated Ultisnips. I like it a lot so far.
The only downside is that I was actually enjoying writing my primitive abbreviations. I had just discovered I could consume the space typed after the abbrev by tacking a <C-O> at the end of the right-hand-side. Still, I'm not gonna reinvent the wheel.
