Learning how to better use the tools you have helps you along the
path, wherever it leads. While my goal isn't to become the best
vimmer on the planet, time invested in learning to use vim (or any
other tool such as version control, a programming language, a shell,
etc) well has multiplicative effects, allowing me to productively
accomplish goals along that "life journey" with notably less effort.
Countless times at work, I've been able to use those skills to reduce
activities that once took hours into tasks that take mere seconds
(or even get automated away).
