Control where quickfix window opens

I can have a large number of windows open in one instance of vim. If
the quickfix window is already open, it makes sense that copen would
simply refresh it in its current location. If it isn't open, however,
I would like very much to control where it opens. When it opens, it
seems to pick a window and occupy the bottom 15 lines or so. I want
to choose which window it does this to. For example, the window in
which the cursor resides would be very nice. Is there a way to do
this?
