I took a read, but it wasn't clear what parts pertain to my problem.
I suspect that the text coming after my two letter command is being
interpretted as arguments. So as a crude fix, I simply avoided
nesting commands. Where a new command's definition includes the use
of a previously defined command, I simply expanded out the previously
defined command.
