"because". this happened long before vim -
when it has been "vi". so.. around 1976. Oh, Joy!

i suppose that "using letters for commands" was the idea here.
both the comma and the semicolon nicely pair the find commands.

the authors of those programs might have been exposed to vi then. *grin*

that's the way with good programs - adjust them to *your* needs.
and good programs have key binding for just that reason.
