silent not so silent...

I have the following in my .vimrc
noremap <leader>mp :silent !markdown2pdf -o %:r.pdf %:r.mtxt \| open
-a /Applications/Adobe\ Acrobat\ X\ Pro/Adobe\ Acrobat\ Pro.app/
%:r.pdf<CR>

It works, but the command shows in the cmd area and when I return to
vim I have to "press ENTER or type command to continue" -- I expected
silent would stop that from happening? Is there some other way to do
this?
