Sure.

Try this in your .vimrc to get the old engine:
set regexpengine=1

If this makes Vim fast again this bug should be reported on vim-dev
with sample file.

Which operating system ? ...

--enable-mzscheme or such should be enough (after having installed
racket). See ./configure --help
