You can use redir for that.

E.g. to capture the output into register a, you could enter:
:redir @a|norm [I|redir end

Then you can do whatever you want with register a (e.g. place it in a
buffer with :put or manipulate it further).

You can also redirect into a filename or a variable. See :h :redir
for more information.
