The right arrow key normally moves the cursor to the next character,
not the next word. Therefore it seems that you have mapped the
right arrow to move to the next word. When a space is typed in
normal mode, the cursor moves to the right by one character. My
guess is that there is a space character at the end of your
right-arrow mapping.

A delay like that usually means that you have typed the first
character(s) of a mapping and Vim is waiting for the rest. Do you
have any mappings whose lhs begin with a space?
