Thank you for the response Justin.

I accidentally found a "clean" solution to this today.
The trick was in setting the "Use bright colors for bold text" in Terminal app options. Then, instead of black, terminal uses 'bright black' (which is gray really) for vim folds.

Now, everything is like in iTerm2!
