Where are you pasting it? CTRL-R 0 is pasting in INSERT and COMMAND modes, in NORMAL mode CTRL-R is redo.

These are special characters. You can change the view in vim by using

    set display+=uhex

. Only representation changes between editors.

I have given two advises regarding how to input them. If first does not work use :s with the second.
