Isn't text a fallback, that is used, when no other type is found? I
wouldn't set this one then.

+1 for not setting those. although I would still make <c-u> in insert
mode undoable.

some more I would set, the mentioned
:set display+=lastline
:set nrformat-=octal (often does unexpected things, when the user does
not expect it)

and possibly also:
:set laststatus=2
