sometimes you might be in an environment where you don't have access to a graphical user interface, instead you might be stuck with just a terminal.
Then vmail might come in extremely handy, wouldn't it?

While I'm sure there are people that might use it, I would not simply
because I already use vi for gmail (and all other text boxes) using a
firefox extension called "its all text".
For me, living in the browser is simply more effectively when reading
email because of the number of links and other information available.
