No, it doesn't appear to have worked. It may be a problem with the
permissions on that file (should be world-readable). But I should have
also pointed out that many shared-hosting sites don't allow changes to
configuration via .htaccess files, so it might not be possible to fix it
via that mechanism.
Your host also appears to be using an old version of Apache (1.3.42,
which is the End-of-Life [EOL] release for the 1.3 series¹). But I
don't think that would prevent this from working (if .htaccess is
allowed at all).
