So what do you do exactly?
1) open vim
2) edit py file
3) :set virtualedit=all
4) try expanding "def" ?
I'd like to create a bug report or fix it.

Of course mixing is fine. Keep in mind that VAM supports dependencies.
Eg snipmate will try to reinstall tlib,vim-addon-mw-utils etc. Thus
consider removing those dependencies from your ~/.vim then.
